Apple iPad vs Netbook

Apple iPad® vs Acer Aspire® 1810 Timeline

Let me first say that I understand the Apple iPad is not a replacement for a netbook or laptop. It’s more of an information consumption device than an bi-directional content creation device.  With that said though, there are some people who will inevitably want to know what they can get for $600 regardless of what it does. Is it a fair comparison? Of course not. They do different things but the bottom line is if I found $600 under my cushions, what do I get for that? The iPad 16GB with 3G is $629 while the 32 GB w/o 3G is $599. The Acer Aspire 1810 is $599. To keep things simple, let’s just say they are all around the same price.

The New York Times has a nice review of the iPad from two different perspectives. Just a final note. Time magazine is $5 PER ISSUE from the App Store. I don’t know what world you live in but in no world of mine is Time magazine worth $5 per issue. If magazines think the iPad will be their salvation, they better rethink their pricing strategy.
