Amanda Logue arrest report

I just got alerted to this disturbing news. I decided to change the title because calling Amanda Logue a model will be an insult to all the real models. At best, she is a prostitute. At worst, she is a psychotic murdering prostitute. I first became aware of her when I saw her prominent role on 2kmodels, a kind of porn modeling site using a code clone of Model Mayhem. She was active under the name Sunny Dae which is also her porn name.

So the gist of what happened is:

Is Model Mayhem down?

The theory was that when Model Mayhem went down, you would be able to get notices on one of the following sites. Most people have probably noticed that does not work so well as updates about site outages are rarely if ever announced leaving members to wonder on their own. Here’s a perfect example. The site has been down for 45 minutes and this is the current tweet on their Twitter account. A check on Facebook shows only members asking what is going on.

Now there is a way to get instant alerts of Model Mayhem going down. Just follow this Twitter account and you will get an update within 2 minutes of the site going down. The alerts are only sent after the site fails to respond after three tries. Additional alerts are sent when the site goes back up. Additionally, you can check back on this page to get a status report about uptime statistics as well as response times.

Essential Google Chrome Extensions

In this article, I’ll highlight some of the essential Firefox extensions I use and their Chrome counterpart.

I’ve been using Google Chrome a lot lately mostly because it’s one damn fast browser. But I do find myself keeping Firefox on standby for some features that are simply not available on Chrome. But as Chrome matures, more and more Firefox extensions are either getting ported to Chrome or someone has written a comparable equivalent. In this article, I’ll highlight some of the essential Firefox extensions I use and their Chrome counterpart. Feel free to suggest your own additions in the comments. What’s more cost effective for storage? DVD, BLUERAY, or hard drives?

Like many photographers, I seen to have an unending appetite for storage. For years, photographers used a variety of methods to backup data with many choosing optical media. But is that really the most cost effective media given the rapidly declining prices of hard drives?

Like many photographers, I seen to have an unending appetite for storage. For years, photographers used a variety of methods to backup data with many choosing optical media. But is that really the most cost effective media given the rapidly declining prices of hard drives? Two terabyte internal 3.5″ sata hard drives can be had for $100 on sale. That’s 5 cents per gigabyte. At that price, there’s really no reason to use optical media to backup data.  Here’s a breakdown of what various media cost on a per gigabyte basis. The calculations are based on actual storage capacity, not the stated manufacturer capacity. As many know, the stated capacity is often larger than the effective capacity due to the way Windows and other OS define gigabytes. To calculate effective gigabyte under Windows, use this conversion tool and select gigabyte (10^9 bytes) as the source and gigabyte [GB] as the target.

Does comment spam on blogs really work?

There is a very small percentage of ignorant people who think they can improve their site’s Google ranking and SEO by spamming their website on blog comments. I”m here to tell you that is a complete waste of time.

No Follow

rel=”nofollow”

Short answer is NO. My spam blocking software Akisment has blocked 27,284 spam comments so far but that is not what this post is about. Most of those blocked are automated bot spams. There is a very small percentage of ignorant people who think they can improve their sites’ Google ranking and SEO by spamming their website on blog comments. I”m here to tell you that is a complete waste of time. All modern blogging software like WordPress will mark blog comments with the attribute nofollow. What this does is tell search engines to ignore the links and don’t index it. So while you may succeed in posting your link assuming it does not get deleted by the blog owner, it will have zero effect on your Google page rank and SEO.

One Model Place acquires iStudio

In a press release posted on May 19, 2010, One Model Place announced the acquisition of iStudio.com. There’s a lot of speculation about this deal and rumors and conspiracy theories are abound. I have to admit it makes no sense whatsoever. If I stretch my imagination, I can almost make sense of the acquisition but the appointment of David Mondrus as CEO makes no sense at all unless he brings something unannounced to the table.
