Professionalism in a BDSM shoot

So how does a professional production company handle bondage shoots to ensure everyone is on the same page? I interviewed Peter Acworth, founder of San Francisco based Kink.com, the largest producer of online kinky adult entertainment and here’s how they approach BDSM shoots to make sure there are no mis-communications before, during, and after the shoot.

Last week, James Lipay of Norwalk, CT was arrested and charged with fourth-degree sexual assault for alleged actions he committed during a bondage shoot with an amateur model. Details are sketchy and it may come down to a he said/she said scenario since the only people present were the photographer and model.

Some of the problems Lipay faces could certainly have been avoided with better communications, preparation, and documentation. So how does a professional production company handle bondage shoots to ensure everyone is on the same page? Peter Acworth, founder of San Francisco based Kink.com, the largest producer of online kinky adult entertainment provides some insight and here’s how they approach BDSM shoots to make sure there are no mis-communications before, during, and after the shoot. Tell your senator: No website blacklists, no internet censorship

Tell your Senator to reject the entertainment industry’s outrageous Internet censorship bill that would blacklist websites, interfere with the Internet’s domain name system (DNS), and legitimize unilateral Internet censorship worldwide.

via Electronic Frontier Foundation

Tell your Senator to reject the entertainment industry’s outrageous Internet censorship bill that would blacklist websites, interfere with the Internet’s domain name system (DNS), and legitimize unilateral Internet censorship worldwide. We fear the Senate may move forward with this bill as early as Wednesday, so please act now!

In the name of fighting copyright infringement, the “Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act” (COICA) would put in place dangerous, overbroad procedures that would take huge numbers of law-abiding websites offline, censor speech and curtail Internet freedom worldwide.

The bill would allow the Attorney General and the Department of Justice to break the Internet one domain at a time — by requiring ISPs, domain registrars, DNS providers, and others to block Internet users from reaching certain websites. Chillingly, the bill also allows the Justice Department to create a blacklist of sites “dedicated to infringing activities” that ISPs and others will be encouraged to block.

And there is a serious danger that COICA could damage Internet freedom worldwide. In the past, the United States has tried to convince other countries to respect citizens’ fundamental right to free speech. But with this bill, the United States risks telling countries throughout the world, “Unilateral censorship of websites that the government doesn’t like is okay — and this is how you do it.”

Reports say that the Senate is moving fast and may try to pass this bill by Wednesday, September 29. That’s why it’s crucial to act now and let your Senator know that COICA is unacceptable before any votes take place!

Research In Motion introduces Playbook – the Blackberry tablet

Today at Research In Motion’s annual BlackBerry Developer Conference, CEO Mike Lazaridisannounced the company’s new tablet — the PlayBook. The tablet will utilize an OS created by the recently acquired QNX (just as we’d heard previous to the announcement) called the BlackBerry Tablet OS which will offer full OpenGL and POSIX support alongside web standards such as HTML5 (which is all tied into RIM’s new WebWorks SDK).

2010 Folsom Street Fair photo gallery

The 2010 Folsom Street Fair was a great success with gorgeous weather, the expected large turnout, and lots of entertainment. This year’s fair seemed larger the previous years with the popular Janus spanking booth at least four times larger than previous years.

Surprisingly, for a fair of this size, the police presence was visibly minimal inside the fairgrounds. There were plenty of police to control traffic but the number of uniformed officers appeared small compared to the troubled ridden Halloween Castro party. This may be because the Folsom Street Fair attracts a more specific audience rather than the general audience the Halloween party might attract.

One standout booth that really entertained was the Steamworks Twister booth. The participants were fully clothed by Folsom Street Fair standards but the instructions by the M.C. calling out the instructions were beyond debauchery and at the same time hilarious. Other exhibitors provided ample demonstrations of spanking, bondage, suspension, and fetishes that most would not even know exist.

It’s not an event that can easily be described in words to a general audience. To truly experience this uniquely San Francisco event, you just have to go. The 2011 Folsom Street Fair will be on Sunday, September 25th, 2011. The fair always take place on the last Sunday in September.

Macy’s Passport Glamorama show

The Macy’s Passport Glamorama show arrived in San Francisco’s Orpheum Theater last night, the last of its four stops including Minneapolis, Chicago, and Los Angeles. This year’s show underwent a transition from a traditional runway show at Fort Mason to a stage show featuring music from Macy Gray and Eric Hutchinson along with dancers and other performers.

The Passport Glamorama show has scaled back significantly from prior years but they did not skimp on production value. This year’s show featured an opening by designer Chris March from Project Runway season 4 along with 3D holographic effects set against a giant LED video wall. The featured designers were Tracy Reese who made a personal appearance, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Just Cavalli, Material Girl, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, INC, Felina/Jezebel and 2(x)ist.

Although the show has been downsized, the goal of philanthropy has not changed. Nor has the needs of the charities they serve. This year’s beneficiaries were AIDS Emergency Fund, Glide Foundation, and Project Open Hand.

Patrons were treated to an after party at the Asian Art Museum with the usual goodies supplied by sponsoring vendors. A dance floor was setup upstairs surrounded by delicious sweets to amply satisfy any sweet tooth. In a move that is uniquely San Francisco, the desert tables were staffed by cross dressers. The party went on until midnight and by all indications, everyone enjoyed the reinvented Macy’s Passport show.
