Police in Toronto are investigating why a NY model/actress would snatch a one month old infant during a commercial audition Thursday night. Toronto police were called to the scene by the hysterical parents after the one month old infant went missing after being moved to another room by the model after she told the parents she was involved with the audition.
Michelle Marie Gopaul, 24, of New York City, has been arrested and charged with abduction of a person under 14. The baby was recovered unharmed around 3 a.m., right before an Amber Alert was about to be issued. Police would not say if the person returning the infant was Gopaul.
Gopaul has an account on Model Mayhem and states she has been interested in acting since age 13. She list her credits in the film The Interpreter and a commercial for American Express in 2006. There is no IMDB listing for a Michelle Gopaul and she is not credited in the listing for The Interpreter although minor roles often go uncredited.
On her Myspace page (no link due to malware on her page), Gopaul showcases her musical talents and quotes Shakespeare.
Gopaul is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Saturday at 10 a.m.
