A Manchester (United Kingdom) photographer was arrested after taking pictures of a brawl on a public street outside a courthouse. He was arrested after asserting his right to take pictures when challenged by the police. The charge was breach of the peace. Even more disturbing, the police tried to order the deletion of images from other photographers. After they refused, no further arrest was made. The photographer was later released after intervention from a senior police officer.
This is not the first time something like this has happened in the U.K. Although the U.K. is one of the most photographed countries in the world by government installed cameras, there have been numerous stories about the police arresting photographers for taking pictures on a public street and sometimes even while standing on their own private property.
