There is another video labeled as Part 1 from the same uploader.

When the video was picked up by Yahoo News Canada, someone claiming to be his piano teacher identified him as Jake Clayton of Laguna Hills, Orange County, CA. Here’s his Youtube page.

And here he is playing Csárdás.

I see a future appearance on The Ellen Show for Jake.

It certainly looks about right to me. What do you think?

How many squares do you see?

I saw this brain teaser being passed around on Facebook. It’s suppose to teach lateral thinking. So how many squares do you see? PS: For those who are more anal thinking than lateral thinking, do not count grey rectangle border around the entire square and pixel do not count as squares for this test.

How to replace a Broan 162 bathroom fan

I bought this Broan 162 1-Bulb Opening Heater Bath Fan with Light as a direct replacement to ease installation since the vent would match up. It’s a fairly complex installation requiring sheet rock repair. The motor on this unit is smaller than the old one. Unit can be wired to operate light in sync with fan or independently.

This post is a bit off topic but since I already went to the trouble of writing this up for the product review, I mind as well post it here.

I only have two switched in my bathroom to operate 3 functions (vanity light, fan, fan light) so two must operate in sync. I don’t want the fan to come on with the vanity light and I don’t want the fan light to come on with the fan so my solution was to wire the fan light to operate with the fan and simply screw in a bulb loosely so it does not light. I didn’t want to leave the socket exposed to moisture. I also didn’t want to put in a 250 watt heat bulb since that’s a waste of electricity while showering and after to vent the steam. HP Touchpad 16 an 32 GB inventory at Best Buy

Update August 28: According to Gizmodo, “Robert Lopez, a Best Buy employee, Best Buy stores received their final shipment of TouchPads between 8/24 and 8/25. No further shipments will be made. The ticketing system was to make selling the tablets fair to customers. Any stores that still have TouchPads just happen to have a few left in their stock. So that’s that.

Update August 26 7:30 pm: Multiple reports are coming from lots of Best Buy stores. There will be no additional shipments of Touchpads. Sure, a few may trickle in here and there but they are done. Another report that Merced and Modesto are the only Northern California stores getting any new Touchpad shipments.

Update August 26 10:00 a.m.: Not able to get a screen shot this time but I can confirm no new stock and no in transit units for both the 16 and 32 gb units in all locations listed below. As I said, I think Best Buy in the Bay Area is done. As a confirmation of my last report, there were no significant lines at San Francisco Geary or Colma this morning. I arrived at San Bruno at 9:50 a.m. And there were three in line and no stock.

A little snippet from my brief exchange with blue shirts this morning. I think it is indicative of what many customers have experienced at Best Buy. I wanted to get an update for the Slick Deal thread so I asked someone to bring up the screen for the 16 gb. It showed no stock and no inbound units. Before he was able to bring up the second screen, another blue shirt who had nothing to do with this interjected that there was no stock and they are not getting anymore. I said just bring up the screen so I can see it. He then said again there is no stock and offered to show me some article written to the employees. I said I don’t want to read an article. I just want to see the stock level for the 32 gb so I can let others know the status. I said “That helps you so they don’t keep coming in here to ask the same question”. He said “Why do you care about them?”. Then he mumbled “Touchpad this Touchpad that. Why does everyone want the Touchpad?”. I said “Why are we having this conversation? Wouldn’t it be faster to just bring up the screen?”. As the first guy is bringing up the screen, he again said show him the article. The inventory screen came up and I confirmed there is no stock.

Update August 26, 05:30am: Various Best Buys in other cities are reporting people in line as early as 4-5 am. Some cities reporting 100 people in line one hour before opening. San Bruno had no one in line as of 5:30 am but they were not expecting any shipments. . If you are in the Bay Area have updates on numbers in line or any success in getting Touchpads today, please update in comments so others can gauge the accuracy of Best Buy’s internal inventory list.

This is a picture of the Best Buy inventory of the Touchpad 16 GB model as of 4 pm Pacific Time on August 25th, 2011.

  • I do not work for Best Buy.
  • I cannot check anything else for you.
  • I do not have status of the 32 GB model.
  • You cannot get to this screen on the web.
  • It is fairly accurate but not 100%. The 3 units at Colma is non existent or slipped out the back door. The 5 units in Santa Rosa is also phantom.
  • The zero in transit means nothing is in transit.
  • If you want answers, do not call Best Buy. Do not sit at your computer asking strangers. Get out, go to Best Buy and ask them to look up the sku 2842056 and 2842929. Look at the screen yourself.
  • Your best bet for getting one is to show up at a store which has ‘in transit’ units 2-3 hours before opening.

I want to thank general manager Ben Bagwell at the San Bruno Best Buy for being very helpful. Also, contrary to many online reports of Best Buy employees hoarding Touchpads, the Marin City Best Buy told an employee to wait in line with the rest of us to get her Touchpad. Happy hunting.

Google forces Google apps users to use multiple accounts and locks some out of Google+

I am the victim of a not so smart Google Skynet

By now most have heard of Google+. One of the selling points or failures (depending on where you stand) of Google+ is their insistence on integrating as many Google services as possible. So when you sign up for Google+, you are not signing yourself up for a single social networking site but rather plugging yourself into the matrix or turning on Skynet. If you have used the internet in the last 5 years, you probably have at least one Goggle service. It might be gmail, Picassa, Youtube, Google Reader, or some other service you signed up for and probably forgot about. One thing you should know up front is Google+ will not work with a Google apps email.

Sign of things to come

Google, in their infinite wisdom, assumed everyone on the internet uses a single email address. That is simply not the case. Like many, I have multiple email addresses I use for various Google services. Before Google+ was even on the drawing board, I was already having problems with this as I used a gmail account for Adsense and my own domain email for other Google services. Google did not allow me to change or merge the Adsense account so I had to log in and log out every time I wanted to check Adsense. This was not big a deal since I don’t need to check Adsense on a daily basis.

The foundation was laid years ago

The beginnings of my current problems started years ago when I used my domain email to sign up for various Google services. When I decided to sign up for Google Apps I used the same primary email. Last week, Google decided that was not going to work with their future plans to integrate all my Google services. Since my personal Google account used the same email as my Google apps company account, they insisted I migrate the data to a new personal account.

Migrating data creates new headaches

I was not given any choice, the migration had to occur if I wanted to continue using Google services. So I create a new personal Google apps account using my initial.domain.com and Google migrated some but not all of my data. The stuff that didn’t get migrated due to compatibility issues included Google+. That data is now attached to a temporary account Google assigned to me. Had I known that, I would have used a non Google apps email to receive the new data but I didn’t so the result of this mess is I now have four separate emails associated with four different Google accounts and Google+ wants me to create a fifth email account to move my data off the temporary account.

No simultaneous logins

So what’s the big deal? Well, Google does not allow simultaneous logins so I cannot have email open in one tab, Adsense open in another, Analytics open in another, and Google+ opened in yet another. Trying to do anything in one account forces a logout in all other accounts and requires a new login.  To add insult to injury, every time I login to Google+ with the temporary account, I am prompted to migrate the account to a new account and it specifically does not allow migration to an existing gmail account, hence the need for a fifth account if I want to continue with the migration. So far, I’ve been ignoring the prompt and have continued to use the temporary account for Google+ but who knows how long that will last.  Of course, there is no effective way to get help from anyone at Google and many people have posted the same problem in the support forum without any replies from Google.

The net result of all this is that none of the four accounts talk to each other. If I +1 something while logged into any Google account other than the temporary account, it is not reflected in my Google+ profile. This is exactly the opposite of what Google was trying to achieve. The only solution is for Google to fix it so Google+ works with Google apps emails since that’s where most of my activity lives. For others, the solution may lie in allowing migration to work with existing gmail accounts so those users don’t have to create a second gmail account just for Google+.

Adobe Digital Editions vs Calibre – mini review

For ebook readers, there are many desktop readers to choose from. Some are limited to Windows or Mac OS while others support multiple platforms. The choice of desktop readers depends on your personal needs such as compatibility with your portable ebook reader and where you source your content. Two popular desktop readers are Adobe Digital Editions and Calibre. There’s really not much point in comparing these two readers as it’s not really a fair fight.
