Nude model Zoe West settled a false-arrest lawsuit with the city of New York for $15,000. West was arrested last year at Times Square while posing nude as part of a body painting exhibition by artist Andy Golub. She was released two hours later without being charged. Public nudity laws are often absent, obscure and vary with municipalities. In San Francisco, there are no laws prohibiting simple public nudity as evidenced by nude friendly events such as the Folsom Street Fair and Bay to Breakers but Public nudity in New York is clearly legal if done in the context of an exhibition so West should never have been arrested.

West has no regrets about the incident. In an interview with the NY Post. West said she had no regrets, because the cops “ weren’t abusive or anything like that” and the exposure has “put me on the map in a positive way.”

“I went out on a limb to do something that I thought was a good project, and it was pretty successful and pretty exciting,” she said.
